York Dhamma School and Sinhala Learning
York Dhamma School was inaugurated on 21st July 2024 under the guidance of Most Venerable Pidiwille Piyatissa Nayaka Maha Thero, Head Monk of Leeds Buddhist Vihara and Ketumati Buddhist Vihara and Most Venerable Galpottayaye Pemananda Thero, Deputy head Monk and Chief of operations of Leeds Buddhist Vihara. Currently there are more than 30 children of different age groups attending the Dhamma school. Children are divided in to classes based on their age where they are taught from basic principles of Buddhism and Buddhist practices to the more advanced concepts of Buddhist philosophy.
Children attending the Dhamma School, take an active part in the religious and cultural events organised by Leeds Buddhist Vihara. This enables them to develop their knowledge and understanding of Buddhism and its customs, Sri Lankan culture and traditions.
Classes are held on every fourth Sunday of month, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. at the St. Luke’s Parish Church, Burton Stone Lane, Clifton, York, YO30 6DG.
York Dhamma School is funded by parents.
